An annular solar eclipse occurs when the moon occults the sun, but is just smaller than the sun's apparent disk. At the peak of this eclipse, the sun appears as a brilliant ring in the sky. This animated map simulates the passage of the moon's shadow upon the earth as it begins at sunrise over Australia. A special location to view this eclipse will be from the Great Northern Highway of Western Australia, south of Newman.
I produced this animated map and other eclipse maps which can be viewed at eclipse-maps.com
